 College of Literature 

The predecessor of the College of Literature at Guizhou University was the Department of Chinese Literature, established in 1942 under the College of Arts and Sciences of National Guizhou University. In 2004, the former Chinese Department, History Department, and Philosophy Department of Guizhou University merged to form the College of Humanities. In May 2016, the former Chinese Department and Journalism Department of the College of Humanities were restructured into the College of Literature and Communication. In April 2023, the former Chinese Department of the College of Literature and Communication was established as the current College of Literature.

The college currently has 44 staff members. Among the professional technical personnel, there are 10 professors, 13 associate professors, and 11 lecturers. The faculty includes 30 doctoral degree holders, 2 doctoral candidates, and 5 master's degree holders. Additionally, 23 faculty members serve as master's supervisors. This forms a teaching team with a reasonable age structure and a well-rounded composition of professional titles and academic qualifications. 

The college currently offers an undergraduate program in Chinese Language and Literature. This program began enrolling students in 1942 and was recognized as a key discipline of Guizhou University in the early 1990s. In 2007, it was designated as a flagship program of Guizhou University and a provincial demonstration program. In 2008, it successfully obtained the National Characteristic Specialty Construction Project. In 2013, it was again recognized as a flagship characteristic program of Guizhou University. In 2017, it was awarded the Guizhou Provincial First-Class Undergraduate Program initiative, and in 2018, it ranked first in the provincial evaluation of Chinese Language and Literature programs. In 2019, it was designated as a National First-Class Undergraduate Program. 

Since its establishment, the Chinese Language and Literature program at Guizhou University has been taught by many renowned scholars such as Xie Liuyi, Tan Jiefu, Yao Dianzhong, Tang Bingzheng, Zhang Ruzhou, Jiang Xiwen, and Wang Ying. The program has produced over 6,000 undergraduate and college graduates, including a significant number of high-quality talents well-received by society. Among its alumni are teaching and research staff with outstanding achievements in universities and research institutions, as well as nationally renowned writers. Notable examples include Liu Yangzhong, former Director of the Ancient Literature Research Office at the Institute of Literary Studies, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences; Peng Zhaorong, Doctoral Supervisor at Xiamen University; Xu Xinjian, Doctoral Supervisor at Sichuan University; Chen Yuehong, former Chair of the Department of Chinese Language and Literature at Peking University; Jiang Nanhua, former President of the Guizhou Academy of Social Sciences; Huang Wanji and Wang Hongru, researchers at the Institute of Liberal Arts of the Guizhou Academy of Social Sciences; He Shiguang, Chairman of the Guizhou Provincial Federation of Literary and Art Circles and renowned writer; and Ouyang Qiansen, Chairman of the Guizhou Writers Association, renowned writer, and recipient of the Lu Xun Literary Award. Additionally, many graduates have become leading cadres at various levels in Party, government, military, and other sectors in Guizhou Province.

In recent years, graduates of the Chinese Language and Literature program at Guizhou University, besides pursuing master's degrees, have primarily found employment in major newspapers and magazines, radio and television stations, Party and government agencies at all levels, management and publicity departments of enterprises and companies, and schools. Thanks to their solid professional foundation, strong comprehensive abilities, and significant potential for development, graduates of the program are widely praised by employers and have made considerable contributions to socio-economic and cultural development. 

The Chinese Department of Guizhou University was among the first in the country to grant master's degrees in Chinese Philology in the early 1980s. In the early 1990s, it further obtained the authority to grant master's degrees in Ancient Chinese Literature. In 2010, it was authorized to grant master's degrees in the first-level discipline of Chinese Language and Literature. Currently, the college enrolls academic master's students in six fields: Literary Theory, Chinese Philology, Chinese Classical Philology, Ancient Chinese Literature, Modern and Contemporary Chinese Literature, and Comparative Literature & World Literature.
